Rebecca Nakagawa, IUSD’s K-12 ELA Coordinator, and her phenomenal team (Jackie Guy, Raymond Robinson, Emmi Kohout, Natalie Hanks, Nikkita Fox, and Kim Farag) believe in equity and empowerment through literacy instruction. Their vision for IUSD focuses on all students leaving the district with a love of reading and developing literacy skills in reading, writing, and speaking & listening.  Rebecca holds an Ed.D. in K-12 Leadership in Urban School Settings from the University of Southern California's Rossier School of Education, where her dissertation focused on teacher differentiated curriculum choices and their effect on gifted students' self-perceptions under the guidance of Dr. Sandra Kaplan. Additionally, Rebecca Nakagawa has a Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Psychology from Pepperdine University, where her thesis explored the cognitive process of reading comprehension. She also holds a Teaching Credential from the University of California, Irvine, and a B.A. in Psychology and Social Behavior. Rebecca started teaching in Irvine in 1999 and is proud to be part of the "US" in IUSD.
