The U.S. Census has become a very controversial issue for many people. Some students are not aware of how much the Census will affect their daily lives. Nor that controversies today may not be controversies tomorrow. This session will walk participants through a sample lesson plan (free to all participants).

Developing Historical Thinking Using Artifacts and Images
Historical thinking encourages students to ask sophisticated, probing questions that lead to a deeper understanding about history and their world, think critically, and effectively analyze information and sources.  Students don't do this intuitively.  Throughout this session, participants will engage in hands-on experiences with objects and images/print materials using strategies designed to teach historical thinking routines in the classroom.
