In this session teacher and author, Stuart Matranga will present practical tips on how to use history and social studies to spark a love of reading and writing among students.  With reading scores and historical literacy falling at alarming rates, schools have to get creative in finding ways to engage students and develop them as active members of society. Over the course of nearly two decades as a teacher, Matranga has fostered even reluctant readers to use critical thinking skills and creativity to actively participate in discovering their own voices. Using many of the techniques in his social studies textbooks, available through Midgard Education Publishing, Matranga can help teachers help students to unlock their potential as readers, writers, and citizens.
