Using Contemporary Music to Develop a Socio-Political Consciousness and to Create Change

Participants will engage in an inquiry-driven approach that examines societal issues/barriers found in contemporary music including hip hop. Instructional strategies designed to help students explore issues historically/currently in music, to analyze perspectives and biases, and to discover their voice as a catalyst for civic change will be discussed along with tools and resources to enable participants to replicate the lesson.
