Using historic family photos dating back to the late 1800's through today, I will present my mother's memoir "When We Were Colored, A Mother's Story." The black narrative is usually about poverty,  grievance and violence. Using Eva Rutland's memoir I seek to tell a story about the black middle class, a swath of America often missing from the popular media.
